Design of Steel Elements for Second Order Effects

At the end of this course you will be able to: Differentiate between the two types of second order effects and their role in defining the stability of a structure. Calculate the required parameters for second order effects due to gravity. Calculate the required parameters for second order effects for each story of a structure and each direction of lateral translations. Calculate the required second-order flexural strength and axial strength of members. Compare and contrast design with and without these second order effects.
