Meet The Client: Office of Civil Engineering (CG-43) – United States Coast Guard

The Office of Civil Engineering (CG-43) holds the crucial responsibility of overseeing the management and maintenance of the Coast Guard’s shore facility capital assets. This includes portfolio management, planning, design, contracts and acquisitions, and environmental stewardship. CG-43 is dedicated to delivering facilities that meet location, timing, and cost requirements. Moreover, the office extends technical assistance for visual and audible aids to navigation and pollution response equipment.

The Client’s Goals and Challenges

CG-43 sought a cost-efficient solution to enable civil engineers to meet their continuing education requirements and access technical training round-the-clock.

Our Solution

Since 2017, we have provided a comprehensive library of over 2,000 self-paced courses and live webinars to 250 civil engineers at the Coast Guard. The diverse subjects covered in the library include civil engineering, construction, project management, energy efficiency, and various other technical training areas. These courses have been specifically designed to fulfill the continuing education requirements set by state licensing boards and professional organizations like the Project Management Institute.

Additionally, our library covers popular subject areas, such as:

  • Stormwater and Drinking Water Quality
  • Facilities Management
  • Cost Estimating
  • LEED and Sustainability
  • Safety Training (OSHA, Electrical, Construction, etc.)
  • Leadership, Management, and Communications
  • Microsoft Office

The Results

Working closely with the Coast Guard, we have achieved the following results over a seven-year period:

  • 350 engineers have actively participated in training sessions
  • 3,125 courses have been successfully completed by dedicated learners
  • Over 4,725 professional development hours have been accumulated

The most popular course completions among civil engineers were in the areas of:

  • Project Management
  • OSHA 10 Hour Construction Program
  • Design
  • Accessibility (ADA)
  • Civil and Coastal Engineering
