Jakarta Servlets: Request and Application Scope Attributes

Servlets are technologies for building Java web applications. They are able to share data using attributes, which, unlike initialization parameters, can be modified dynamically. The focus is on three types: request-scope attributes, application-scope attributes, and session-scope attributes. In this course, you will start by sketching various types of initialization parameters and identifying that these are read-only, whereas attributes can be modified dynamically. Next, implement the sharing of data between servlets using request scope attributes. Learn how to design a form, implement the doPost method, and use the process of passing simple data items, lists and objects between servlets using attributes. Finally, discover how to use the servlet context for global attributes, and analyze bugs that can arise from a lack of thread safety and synchronization. You will then fix those issues via judicious use of the synchronize keyword to lock access to the servlet context.
