Jakarta Servlets: Using Apache Tomcat with Servlets

Servlets run within an environment known as a web container. Tomcat is a widely used web container, and provides excellent support in managing the Servlet lifecycle, request management, and security enforcement.In this course, learn the differences between web containers and application servers. You will see how web containers such as Tomcat are relatively lightweight and focus on managing servlets and JSPs, while application servers offer broader functionality.Next, discover Apache Tomcat focusing on three key components – Coyote, Jasper, and Catalina. Coyote manages Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) requests, Catalina operates as the core of the servlet container, and Jasper handles JSP files. You will learn about different Tomcat scripts and the webapps, bin and conf directories.Finally, you will install and configure Apache Tomcat and edit the appropriate configuration XML files to be able to use the the Tomcat Web Application Manager.
