US firms that transact any level of business internationally must comply with federal laws regulating the export of commercial and defense-related items information and technology. This course provides awareness-level training about the regulatory system for exports; the agencies involved in administering and enforcing the regulations including the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) the Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC) and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC); the definitions of key terms under the various laws such as exports and foreign persons; and how to determine whether an item to be exported requires a license.
